My original handpainted Groovy Bowls are maple wood. I sketch my image onto the bowl. I use acrylic paints and finish with multiple layers of water based polyurethane which is safe for cold foods. Hand wash in warm soapy water and dry immediately. Do not put wood bowls in the dishwasher or microwave. If cared for lovingly these bowls should last a lifetime. Available in multiple sizes! The 12”, 15” and 17” fish bowls have the body of the fish and tail continue onto the back of the bowl. As these are made to order just for you, please allow up to two weeks before shipment. Thank you!

  • Art In A Bowl!

My canvas is Beech and Maple wood salad shaped bowls. Each bowl is unique! I use nature as my model,Fish, Birds, Flowers, Shells, Vegetables and Fruit. I also paint special orders as well, just ask. I paint in a very translucent style so that the beautiful grain of each bowl shines through. I use acrylic paints. I finish the bowls with layers of water based polyurethane that is safe for cold foods only. The bowls can be cleaned by washing in warm, soapy, water and dried immediately. Never put wooden bowls in the microwave or dishwasher. If cared for lovingly these bowls will last forever. Bowl sizes are 8", 10", 12", 15" and 17". P.S. When I paint a fish on the larger size bowls, 12", 15" and 17". I continue painting the body and tail over onto the back of the bowl.

    White Line Woodblock Printing Method

I start with a plain piece of pine cut to the desired dimensions. Once I determine how the design will be laid out on the block I either sketch the image directly on the block or transfer my image using carbon paper. Using an exacto knife I carve the outline of the image. I then register or attach my Arches printing paper to the carved block. I gently lift the paper up from the block and working in small areas I apply watercolor paint. I then flip the paper over the block and using a sterling silver spoon I rub the area that has just been painted. The image transfers to the paper. What makes this method so simple is you can apply different colors to one block. The result is a crisp while line outlining each design with beautiful, translucent, soft color.
