One of the top activities when visiting Sanibel and Captiva Islands is world-class shelling. You never know what treasures you might discover—perhaps even the elusive Junonia! I often see posts from visitors proudly showing off this rare find, though in my 27 years of living here, it has still managed to elude me. The shelling changes with the tides and the storms that blow in from offshore, so on any given day, you might come across a bounty of shells—or none at all.
A must-see on Sanibel is the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum. It’s a fascinating place to explore the wonders of shells and marine life. You can learn more by visiting their website: https://www.shellmuseum.org/about/.
If your shelling adventure doesn’t turn up many treasures, you can always stop by She Sells Sea Shells on Sanibel to pick up some beautiful shells to take home. Visit their website to learn more: https://sanibelshellcrafts.com/.
"While you're on Sanibel, be sure to stop by Tower Gallery and pick up a piece of coastal art—a perfect way to remember your time on the island." https://www.towergallery.net/
