SHEILA HOEN

expression in color & form... Angel Of The Arts Award 2007 New Artist of the Year, Lee County. As a young girl in British Columbia painting watercolor scenes in the swamps, woodlands and beaches of Salt Spring Island, Sheila had the dream of being an artist.  After evolving through a number of careers such as financial analyst, petroleum economist and lawyer, she began painting in 2001. In 2007, Sheila won the coveted title of New Artist of the Year for Lee County, Florida at the annual Angels ofthe Arts Awards in Fort Myers.  Eleven artists who had painted for less than 6 years were nominated and independent panels of artists in Collier and Charlotte Counties made the choice. At present she paints in expressionist and abstract styles with acrylics, using tertiary colors, combining liquid and heavy acrylics and utilizing layering and texturing techniques.  Because she loves the outdoors, Sheila works on landscapes "en plein air".  For expressionist figures she draws with the paintbrush quickly while the subject is absorbed in some activity, and finishes her works in the studio.  Her work as a colorist has been inspired by visits to Monet's home in Giverny, van Gogh's presence in Auvers Sur Oise and other Normandy towns, as well as my native Gulf Islands in British Columbia and Sanibel and Captiva Islands in Florida. An active member of The Federation of Canadian Artists, she has exhibited my work in British Columbia, Giverny, France and on Sanibel and Captiva Islands and  Fort Myers. Florida.  At this time, Sheila's work is only sold in our physical gallery location.
